According to the National Retail Federation holiday spending
is set to increase from 2011 to 2012, but consumers are still staying somewhat
conservative in their spending habits. According
to a recent survey conducted by FreightCenter.com, 58.6% of respondents plan on
spending between $100 and $1,000 on gifts alone this holiday season.
This increase in spend is just another signal that our
economic climate is improving at least one step at a time. From 2004 to 2011
holiday spending was at an all time low of $681.83 per person. These numbers have continued to increase, not jump, but increase since 2009. Holiday shoppers also plan to start early,
which is good news for online retailers and shipping providers.
Both freight and parcel shippers can
expect an increase in shipping volume this season. According to our survey 42.9% of respondents
shop online more than they shop in stores. Electronics were at the top for high ticket items bought
online. While buying is up, expectations
for shipping costs is pretty low.
For shipping a large piece of furniture or exercise
equipment, customers expect to pay around $50.00 to get it home. Luckily with all the Cyber Monday Sales,
consumers should have a pretty easy time finding discounts or coupons for their shopping and shipping alike. Start by signing up for our newsletter and receive discounts on LTL shipments straight
