Freight Shipping Calculator

Freight Shipping Calculator for Ecommerce

Have an online store? Sell heavy items via eBay? Need a way to show freight shipping costs to your buyers? There's an app for that!

Buying and selling heavy and oversize items doesn't have to be a chore, and you don't always have to resort to local pickup as a way to avoid shipping the item. FreightCenter has created a solution that many online retailers and auction buyers have successfully used to ship furniture, engines, transmissions - you name it - across the United States and Canada.

Use our free freight shipping calculator to calculate the cost of shipping store items that weigh over 150 lbs each, or even just a large antique dresser or other piece of furniture that you want to sell online. Whether you make a living selling online or just need to ship once or twice, our shipping calculator solves the problem of finding out how much it costs to ship via freight.

If you've read this far than you are probably wondering how it works. Well, you're in luck. Below we have outlined the process step by step.

Step 1: Register or Log In to your FreightCenter account. Registration is easy and we never give your personal information out to anyone. Your details are safe with us.

Step 2: Once you're signed in, scroll down to the My Calculators section and click + Create a Calculator.

Step 3: This is where you enter in the major details of the item you will ship. These details are used to determine how much it will cost to ship so make sure to be 100% accurate. The first thing we need to know is where to pick the item up - the Ship From Location. Give us your zip code, type of location (business, residential, etc.) and if you need any extra services like a phone call before the truck driver arrives.

The Ship To Location information is blank because that is for your buyer or customer to fill out.

The last section is where you enter the major details for the Items To Be Shipped. We need to know how your freight is packaged (boxed, on a pallet, crated, etc.), how many boxes or pallets you need to ship, the total weight including packaging weight (Pro Tip: the standard US pallet weighs 50lbs) and the dimensions of your item. The next thing we ask you is your freight class. Freight Classification is an industry standard and it helps the carrier determine the space and equipment required to transport your item. If you don't know your freight class, simply use the lookup function to find out.

If you're shipping hazardous materials, make sure to check the Hazmat box. You can also add on an additional handling fee and enter a name for your shipping calculator so you can save it and return to it later. Click the Get Code button to save and move on to the next step. The hardest part is over!

Step 4: Congratulations! Your custom freight shipping calculator is now created. All you need to do next is copy the code generated for you and paste it where you want it located on your site or in the HTML description on your online auction.

This is what it looks like in the Description part of an eBay listing:

When creating your auction, simply ignore the shipping portion and inform your customer of how the shipping will be handled. As the seller, you can choose to enter a few zip codes yourself to calculate the median cost of shipping and then include the cost of shipping into the price of the item, or you can make the customer responsible for creating an account and selecting the price and service. We've found that sellers are more successful when they select a few options and display them to the customer.
